Yes! I 110% encourage caregivers to join in our circle and participate in music class. Children cherish this kind of special time with a caregiver, and are more likely to actively participate if someone they love and trust (you!) shows them it’s safe to do so. However, caregiver participation is absolutely not a requirement. You are welcome to find a spot in the park (preferably comfortably within earshot so we can easily reach you) to read, watch your other child(ren) play, or just relax nearby and observe the class. I ask that if you need to use a device (phone, laptop, etc.), please find a private spot away from the group as it tends to be distracting.
My goal in this work is to provide an enriching and educational musical experience for your children. You, as an expert of your child, can help prepare them for success. If they self-regulate best after gross motor activities (running, climbing, swimming, etc.), then consider arriving at the park a little early to allow time for that. If your child has a hard time engaging when they’re hungry, offer them a protein-rich snack or meal before music class.
Unfortunately, no. Since I am conducting music class in a public park, and am teaching by myself, I ask that each child is accompanied by a caregiver (this can be a parent, nanny, or you can coordinate with another parent whose child is also in the class). This policy is in place so that an adult is always available if the child needs water, a bathroom break, or even just a quick hug.
In an effect to reduce allergens and distractions, please refrain from providing food for the duration of music class (of course, water is totally fine). Feel free to arrive at the park early or stay late to share snack time with friends.
Feel free to bring a picnic blanket or chair to make yourself feel comfortable. I will be providing a tarp and rubber seat mats for the children and any adults that choose to sit in the circle. However, you don’t need to sit on the ground with us in order to participate. You are welcome to bring your own sitting arrangement. The children will be asked to sit on the seat mats, so try to discourage lap sitting.
